The Corning Museum of Glass, located in Corning, New York, announced today that it has appointed Christopher Maxwell as curator of European glass. Starting in October of this year, Maxwell will oversee glassware stemming from the Middle Ages all the way through the 20th century, as well as the planning of exhibitions, programming, and acquisitions to the collection.
Previously, Maxwell held positions in the Royal Collection, and worked as an assistant curator in the ceramics and glass section of the Victoria & Albert Museum. He left the V&A to pursue a Ph.D. at the University of Glasgow in Scotland, and worked with a private dealer before joining the CMoG.
In a statement, Maxwell said of his hire, “I look forward to exploring such narratives with CMoG’s outstanding collection, furthering my research, and presenting exhibitions that I hope audiences will find informative, entertaining, and even surprising.”
